Why did the Leafs trade Sandin?

I’ve been a big fan of Rasmus Sandin as a player and as a person since we first met in Toronto in the summer of 2018.
Having worked with him first as a Player Development Analyst with the Maple Leafs and then as an Assistant Coach with the AHL Marlies, I was naturally disappointed to see him traded to Washington.
