Offensive-Zone FOGO
Coaches typically use FOGO (Face Off, Get Off) plays in the defensive zone, but Sheldon Keefe & his staff were able to get Auston Matthews a favorable matchup in overtime by working in a rare OZ FOGO.
TBL has last change and sends out Palat-Stamkos-Kucherov for the draw. TOR initially counters with Jason Spezza’s fourth line, but Spezza (TOR19) wins the faceoff cleanly and sprints back to the bench. He is replaced by Matthews, who gets available as a high F3 between his Ds and drills a one-timer on net.
Cutback Details
Having shared the ice with John Tavares during my time with Toronto, I can attest to the fact that TOR91 is a top-10 player in the world at working the puck down low in the OZ. However, in his final shift of Game Six, the Leafs captain also demonstrates what not to do leading up to a cutback attempt.
